This juried competition centered around painting a beloved pet using the medium of our choice. I chose watercolour for its delicate, flowing quality and as a personal challenge, stepping away from my usual acrylics. I enjoy switching mediums when I feel the need to slow down and embrace a different creative rhythm.
Painting this sweet boy was especially meaningful to me. He belonged to a dear friend, and the joy my artwork brought her far outweighed any award I could have received.

I entered Divine Strength in the Faces of Canadian Healthcare art competition with one very personal hope: to win a $25,000 donation for the NICU at Kingston General Hospital.
My grandson Jack was born at just 26 weeks and spent the first 99 days of his life in the NICU. Thanks to the extraordinary team who cared for him, he grew into a strong, healthy little boy. I wanted nothing more than to give something back to the people who gave our family so much.
Naturally, I discovered the competition with approximately five minutes to spare. I entered on May 16, rallied the troops, and somehow managed to finish in fourth place!
We didn’t bring home the donation, but I remain grateful to everyone who voted and helped me honour the people who made such a difference to Jack and our family.

This competition emphasized the power and impact of colour, and I was truly honored to receive this award!
Acceptance was built through many layers, each one contributing to the final expression of how challenging it can be to fully embrace ourselves.
