A Guide for Navigating Life’s Bullshit
Sometimes life changes the plan without bothering to ask us first. Rude.
Well, That Wasn’t Part of the Plan is an 83-page guided journal for those moments when life takes an unexpected turn and you’re left wondering, Okay... now what?
Through ten thoughtfully designed chapters, personal reflection, writing prompts, a little humour and my original artwork, this journal helps you acknowledge what happened, reconnect with yourself and begin imagining what might come next.
Because sometimes the chapter you didn’t choose becomes the chapter you needed.
THIS ISN'T ABOUT HAVING ALL THE ANSWERS
You won’t find a magic formula for fixing everything in these pages. What you will find is a place to slow down, be honest about where you are, and begin figuring out where you want to go from here.
The ten chapters are designed to take you through that process one step at a time—from acknowledging what happened and letting go of what no longer fits, to reconnecting with yourself, imagining what could come next and moving forward.
You don’t need to know where you’ll end up when you begin. That’s the point of it all.
There will be some thinking, some writing, probably a few uncomfortable truths—and hopefully a few laughs along the way. Because apparently we’re supposed to have coping skills.
A CHAPTER AT A GLANCE
Ten chapters. One step at a time. And plenty of room to make the journey your own.
From Acknowledge and Breathe to Imagine, Create and Move Forward, each chapter builds on the one before it, helping you move from making sense of what happened to exploring what might come next. Some questions will be easy to answer. Others might make you stare at the page for a while. Rude, but necessary.
Along the way, you’ll find space for reflection, inspirational words, moments that make you think and my original artwork woven throughout the pages.
No magic wand included. I checked.
FROM MY BOOKSHELF
Well, That Wasn't Part of the Plan is only part of my writing story. You can also find the books I've co-authored and follow my author page on Amazon.
I didn’t create this journal because I have life all figured out. Quite the opposite, actually. I'm not a therapist, either. Just someone who's lived through a few things.
I created it because I know what it feels like when life takes a turn you never saw coming. I've battled cancer, and at 59, after 26 years in the same job, I found myself having to reinvent my professional life.
Well played, universe. Well played.
I also know that finding your way forward isn't always a straight line. Sometimes it's messy, sometimes it's surprising, and sometimes you just have to laugh at the sheer audacity of it all.
This journal brings together two things that have helped me navigate my own unexpected chapters: creativity and the willingness to ask myself some uncomfortable questions.
My hope is that somewhere within these pages, you’ll discover a little more of yourself—and perhaps a possibility you hadn’t considered before.
You don’t need to have it all figured out by page 83. But knowing yourself a little better? That’s a pretty good place to start.
Before creating Well, That Wasn’t Part of the Plan, I had the pleasure of contributing a chapter to each of three books in The Creative Lifebook Series: The Creative Lifebook, Radical Self-Love and Radical Freedom.
Each book brings together voices, experiences and perspectives on creativity, empowerment and personal growth. I'm grateful to have shared a little of my own story alongside so many others.
Three books. Three chapters. And apparently, I wasn't finished writing.
